In the beginning…
The H.T. Ewald Foundation was incorporated under the laws of the state of Michigan in 1928. Its principal assets were obtained through endowments made by the late H.T. Ewald, founder and president of the Campbell-Ewald Advertising Company, one of America's largest advertising agencies. In the early years, the Foundation's primary objective was to support local and national charities.
Education scholarships…
In the mid 50's H.T. Ewald Jr. adopted the leadership role for the Foundation and initiated the Scholarship Program. H.T. Ewald Jr., more commonly known as Ted, changed the focus of the Foundation to assisting high school students in the Metropolitan Detroit area who deserved, but could not afford a college education. The Foundation's Scholarship Program flourished under the leadership of Ted Ewald, Jr., until his death in 1996.
More than funding…
In his lifetime, Ted made a difference in hundreds of people's lives not only through his generosity, but through caring. Ted dedicated himself to aspiring students and their needs, giving them a chance at a promising future that may not otherwise have been possible. Through example and mentoring, he provided support and took great pride in his students. He believed in each one and helped instill in them the confidence to believe in themselves and their dreams. His favorite slogan was; “It is not what we give, but what we share.” During Ted’s tenure, the Foundation funded over 5 million dollars in educational scholarships to more than 600 Detroit area students.
In 2003, the Foundation celebrated it’s 75th Anniversary. You may watch a commemorative video here.
Local to International education suport…
Today the Foundation continues under the care and management of Ted's family and board members. It supports charities, non-profit organizations, and student scholarship programs worldwide. Upholding the traditions of Ted Jr., the board is actively involved; providing mentoring and guidance for the projects they support. The memories and vision of Ted Ewald, Jr. will strongly shape and guide the Foundation into the twenty-first century, inspiring the continued tradition of caring and giving.
From 2020-2024, the Foundation has supported 20 different organizations in five countries focusing on education, curriculum development, family planning, skilled trades training, environmental and cultural awareness initiatives.
